Calling all food lovers! Experience the richness of Sumatran cuisine by joining a hands-on local cooking class. Start your day with a visit to the traditional market, where you’ll handpick fresh ingredients alongside your host. Then, step into a local kitchen, where friendly women will guide you through the art of cooking beloved Indonesian dishes passed down through generations. Learn to prepare 2 starters and 2 main dishes—choose from an array of local favorites like spicy sambal, creamy curry, savory rendang, crunchy tempeh, and smoky satay. After the class, sit down together and enjoy the delicious meals you created!

ITINERARY
- After enjoying your breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your guesthouse around 9:00 AM. First stop: a charming local market! Wander through colorful stalls, soak in the vibrant atmosphere, and shop for fresh ingredients you’ll be using later.
- From there, you’ll head to the cozy home of Adijah and Panji a lovely couple who will warmly welcome you into their traditional house, nestled among lush rice fields with a stunning view of the Gunung Leuser mountains.
- In their rustic kitchen, Adijah and Panji will guide you step-by-step in preparing delicious Indonesian dishes. You’ll get hands-on with local spices and herbs, learning to make two appetizers of your choice—options include tempeh goreng, pisang goreng, bakwan, or spring rolls. For the main course, choose two classic meals such as curry, rendang, semur, sambal, asam manis, sate, gado-gado, or nasi/mie goreng. Vegetarian-friendly choices are available too!.
- More than just cooking, this is a cultural exchange—our hosts will share family recipes and insider tips. Once everything is ready, sit together on the terrace to enjoy the fruits of your labor while soaking in the peaceful surroundings.
- You’ll also receive the recipes by PDF, so you can recreate the magic back home
- Expect to return to your guesthouse around 1:00–2:00 PM, full of flavor and good memories.
